Ancestry Library Edition is an online database of genealogy resources from ancestry.com.

As a member of any Charles Sturt library, you can access the Ancestry Library Edition in the library from a public library PC.

South Australian Births Deaths & Marriages

The following indexes are available for searching in our libraries:

  • Births 1842 – 1928
  • Deaths 1842- 1972
  • Marriages 1842 – 1937

Australian Pioneer Indexes

There are various State Pioneer Indexes available to view that show Birth, Death and Marriage information from other States. The following indexes are available:

  • NSW Between the Wars 1919-1945
  • NSW Pioneers Index, 1788-1888
  • NSW Federation Index 1889-1918
  • VIC Pioneers Index, 1837-1888
  • TAS Pioneers Index, 1803-1899
  • WA Pioneers Index, 1841-1905

These databases are available for viewing from our Public Library PCs from any of our 5 libraries and are accessed via our virtual PC, so only one session is available at any given time across the network.

Note: Staff at the libraries can access notes on, how to log onto the virtual PC to access these resources. The State Library of South Australia also has these resources available.

Hindmarsh Births, Deaths & Marriages Certificates Hindmarsh Births, Deaths & Marriages certificates are available on Microfiche and can be viewed at the Hindmarsh Library.

  • James McCelland’s Convict – Pioneer and Immigrant Series (Vol 1, 2, & 4)
    • List of names of all convicts and free persons arriving in Australia from 1788 - 1810
