St Clair Recreation Centre Demolition Launch

22 October 2017

Join us on Monday 23 October at 9am as we begin demolition of the existing St Clair Recreation Centre in preparation for the construction of the circa $26million revitalised six court stadium and regional outdoor play space.

Mayor Angela Evans will be joined by the Premier of South Australia and Member for Cheltenham the Hon. Jay Weatherill, the Minster for Education and Child Development and Member for Port Adelaide the Hon. Dr Susan Close and the Speaker of Parliament and Member for Croydon the Hon. Michael Atkinson in officially commencing the demolition works.

The City of Charles Sturt is funding $15million of the works through our Long Term Financial Plan, and welcomes a $7.5million funding contribution from the Office of Recreation and Sport.

The revitalised St Clair Precinct will include:

  • A brand new six court basketball stadium
  • Dedicated indoor roller skate area
  • Indoor function space
  • Indoor meeting spaces
  • Indoor café
  • Stadium gymnasium
  • Integrated heritage aspects
  • A brand new expansive play space including nature play and all ability inclusive spaces
  • New skate park
  • New recreation and picnic areas
  • New community use tennis courts
  • Improved car parking and pedestrian connections to Woodville Road, train station, St Clair suburb and Woodville High School

"This state of the art facility will provide a world class indoor recreation facility as well as a regional outdoor play space, future proofing the recreation needs for the western suburbs," Mayor Evans said.

"We are committed to building today for the city of tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing the precinct take shape into 2018."
