Library FAQ


 How do I join the library?

If you already hold a South Australian Public Library card our library team can review your account and update your details to ensure all is in readiness for you to start utilising the ‘One Card’ network.

If not, then becoming a library member is easy!  You can either join at one of our branches or online. We ask you to provide some form of photographic identification which includes your name and address, such as a valid Driver's Licence.  If you don’t have this, then two forms of personal identification with your name and address are required.  This could be a Health Care Card, utilities bill or council notice.

If you are under 18 years you will need to have your Registration Form completed and signed by a parent or guardian.

The Charles Sturt Library Service is now a part of South Australia’s ‘One Card’ network. If you are a member of another South Australian Public Library on the ‘One Card’ network we invite you to browse and borrow from our collection. However, if you are a member of another library and recently moved into the City of Charles Sturt area, we encourage you to let our friendly library team know so we can update your account details on our state wide database.

 Can I make a Council Payment at the Library?

Council payments can be made (by cheque or EFTPOS) at the libraries during weekdays.

 How many items can I borrow?  

You can borrow up to 100 items per card through our ‘One Card’ network including 20 DVDs and 20 CDs.

 For how long can I borrow the items?   

Books can be borrowed for 4 weeks unless they are heavily requested. Magazines, CDs, DVDs and can be borrowed for 2 weeks.

How do I renew items?

All items borrowed from the Library can be renewed twice as long as there are no other people waiting to borrow them. The renewal period is the same as the original loan period. (for example:  a 4 week item can be renewed for a further 4 weeks).

Items can be renewed by logging into your account through our online catalogue, via our iPhone & Android App 'Bookmyne', by calling us on 8408 1333 or by coming into a ‘One Card’ library and talking to our friendly library team.

 Where do I return items I've borrowed?

You can return your items to any Charles Sturt Library location Civic (Woodville), Findon, Hindmarsh, Henley Beach or West Lakes or to any SA Public Library on the ‘One Card’ network.

We also have a returns chute outside each of our library locations.

If you think that you will not be able to return your items on time, please feel free to contact us or use the online catalogue or ‘Bookmyne’ to extend your loans.

What happens if you don’t return an item on time?

You will receive a reminder, no fee, by SMS or email, you can choose which is best for you.

If you don’t act on that reminder and the item remains overdue, the library that owns the book (remember, you will have access to any item from the ‘One Card’ network) will send you a notice.

If the notice is issued by the Charles Sturt Library Service it will include:-

  • Replacement cost of the item/s
  • $5 processing fee for each item

If the items are returned after this final notice from the Charles Sturt Library, the fees are cleared and there is no charge to you.

Please note: As we move to a more consistent system and rules across the ‘One Card’ network, please be aware local borrowing rules apply.  We recommend you familiarise yourself with the local rules in the library you physically borrow from.

 How do I request an item?

Use the library catalogue to search for an item. You can request for the item to be reserved for you and delivered to your nearest library when it is available.

You can request up to 30 items per card.
