Earth Hour
‘Switch Off For Good!’ 2013
At 8:30 PM, Saturday 23 March 2013, hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour, Earth Hour. In 2013 WWF-Australia is encouraging everyone to 'go beyond the hour' and ‘switch off for good’ to help create a more sustainable planet.
The City of Charles Sturtis participating in Earth Hour 2013 by ensuring that non-essential lighting and electrical appliances controlled by Council at Council’s Civic Centre are switched off on Saturday 23 March 2013 between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
To find out how we as a Council 'go beyond the hour' go to 'Towards One Planet Living: Greening the Western Suburbs' at https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/site/page.aspx?u=234
"The phenomenal thing about Earth Hour is the changes it has inspired people to make in their every-day lives," said WWF-Australia CEO Dermot O'Gorman.
“It is not about one hour of darkness; it is about a lifetime of sustainability. Australians continue to show leadership on this important issue, therefore we look forward to seeing some ofAustralia's best examples of people going beyond the hour.
We know that to create a sustainable planet, we all need to play our small part."
Participating in Earth Hour is a great first step; but go ‘beyond the hour’ and ‘switch off for good’ by pledging to make your energy use more Earth friendly by selecting renewable energy sources.
