The Council has 10 schools within the city that are visited each year to provide students with age appropriate vaccinations. The schools that are visited by the City of Charles Sturt are:
Woodville High School
Henley High School
Findon High School
Seaton High School
Bowden/Brompton Community School
The Grove Education Centre
Adelaide Secondary School of English
St Michaels College
Three visits are undertaken to each school. A post-vaccination record card and a vaccine safety information leaflet is given to each child on the day of immunisation. For more information regarding the school program please contact the Immunisation section of Council on 8408 1111.
Year 8 students
Students are given the Hepatitis B vaccine (HBVAX 11), Chicken Pox vaccine (Varivax) and female students are given the Cervical Cancer Vaccine (Gardasil).
Year 9 students
Students are given the Diphtheria/Tetanus/Whooping Cough vaccine (Boostrix). This is the last scheduled tetanus vaccination required until the age of 50. Previous tetanus vaccine should have been given at 4 - 5 years of age. If your child has recently had a tetanus prone wound and received a tetanus booster (ADT) dose from your doctor, then the Boostrix (dTpa) vaccine should still be given. If your child has been given the Boostrix (adolescent/adult dTpa) vaccine in the last 5 years, the year 9 Boostrix should not be given.
Please note students will only be vaccinated if they have returned their signed consent forms.
For students that are absent on the day of immunisation, a follow up letter will be sent to parents/guardians notifying them of their child's absence and information of clinic dates and times will be provided. Parents/guardians are then able to attend one of the regular clinics days. Please refer to the clinic time table for days and times:
Please bring the students Medicare card to your preferred session time.
Parents/guardians are able to attend other local council immunisation clinic to receive a free catch-up dose that was missed at school. Please note that most GP providers may charge you for the consult and vaccine.
