A Stormwater Master Plan (SMP) has been developed to manage stormwater run off in the City to identify the risk of flooding, improve water quality and to harvest stormwater for reuse.
Many suburbs in the City have a long history of flooding because the land is flat and close to sea level, and much of the stormwater infrastructure is ageing.
Flood-plain maps have been produced using new computer modelling indicating where stormwater will flow in a one-in-100 year rainfall event in key water catchment areas. It is anticipated that every Charles Sturt catchment will be studied over time.
The initial analysis has found that a large proportion of the stormwater infrastructure is either in relatively poor condition or is inadequate and will require significant additional funding to replace or upgrade.
