Henley Precinct receives $2m additional funding!

The Australian Government has provided $2 million through the Community Developments Grants Programme for the redevelopment of Henley Precinct in Charles Sturt.

The objective of the Community Development Grants Programme is to fund projects that support the infrastructure needs and the economic and community growth of Australia’s regions, and delivers on a 2013 Federal election commitment.

The Funding Agreement between the Charles Sturt and the Australian Government builds on the $2 million commitment for the project provided by the State Government. The City of Charles Sturt has committed $4.4m to the $8.4m total project cost.

The Funding Agreement has now been executed and the plans for the development of the Henley Precinct are well under way with the detailed design finalised and contract almost completed. It is expected that site works will commence in the first quarter of the year and will bring about a significant change to Henley Square creating a quality environment for the community to use and share. The design for the redevelopment will include;

  • Improvements to the formal square and the outdoor dining areas, including the incorporation of new shelters/shade protection, water feature, new feature and interactive lighting and high quality urban elements

  • The reconfiguration of the car park areas to the north and south of the Square increasing car parking space

  • Improvements to the Seaview Road/Main Street intersection and expansion of the pedestrian activated crossing

  • Reconfiguration of the lawn space to provide greater flexibility and use for events and public gatherings

  • Strengthening the relationship of the jetty to the Square and the incorporation of new seating and gathering areas

  • New promenade areas incorporating Coast Park, cycling and walking facilities as well as activation and event spaces to the north of the lawn and new toilet/amenities building.

Following extensive and through evaluation process, BMD Constructions have been awarded the contract for the construction works. Preliminary works will commence in April and will be completed by November 2015.
